Our favourite night of the year in Paris…
So the time is here for my favourite evening in Paris, Fete de la Musique. I love it. I love it all the more for its chaotic organization, its eclectic music selection and the reminder of just how far France is from being a nanny state! People set up little drinks stands outside their homes, crowds fill streets, music fills the air, crazy drivers attempt to squeeze through the crowds only for the crowds to often just jump up and dance on the automotive intruders. The countless stages allows for all tastes – you will walk from rue du moulin listening to a drag queen singing French classics, then suddenly the street over will have you listening to reggae. As I said, I love it.
So if you’re planning a trip to Paris I would always try and coincide it with summer solstice or – as renamed by me – the best night of the year. This is when Paris celebrates all things musical and the streets are alive with the best fête of the year!
Here I have helpfully (because we’re like that at Friend in France) put together a map that will provide you with the location, the genre of music and the time it’s on. A little starter kit to get you going because it’s likely that you’ll bump into a friend or hear something awesome a street along, and suddenly plans will go out the window. There’s not too much point in planning too rigorously ahead of time, but it’s good to be a little prepared. You’ll be glad to hear its bound to be even more special this year, as it falls on a Saturday – whoop!
