Festival des Heures Musicales de Biot

The 2nd, 16th & 20th June at 9pm (Sainte-Marie-Madeleine Chruch) Biot

For more than 50 years this festival has showcased the talent of international artists.

Set in a favourite countryside spot, it’s a cultural “rendez-vous”not to be missed.

Ayo in concert

6th June at 8.30pm (Espace Léo Ferré-Fonvielle) Monaco

After selling more than one million discs in 40 countries, Ayo reunites with the producer of her first album Jay Newland, for “Ticket To The World”, a new opus, recorded in a live show conditions.

Antibes Génération Virtuoses

From the 18th to the 26th June (Antipolis Théâtre) Antibes

This festival offers young musicians (all prize-holders) the chance to be part of an international event.  Offering a repertory of classic music, based on concertos from baroque to contemporary style, it will feature soloists…. piano, violin, alto, harp, guitar, trumpet etc… all competing to be the top performer.  For more info click here.

Ballet Revolución

Fête du Château

Saturday 28th June (Castle Hill) Nice

Two days of festivities with the best of the local musical scene.  There will be two stages set up in the beautiful scenery of the Castle Hill where bands & Djs will entertain throughout the festivities.  Line up includes….. Noon X.o.x.o, Party Roxx, GCM & The Warriors, Baticauda, Jean Louis Ruf-Costanzo, J’Bam, Miran Chante Férré, A’Jam, Freeze DBH, Dirtyfingerz et Kastafior.

Les Voiles d’Antibes –Trophée Panerai 

From the 4th to the 8th June (Port vauban, Cap dAntibes & Juan-Les-Pins Bay)

For the opening of its 19th edition, The Voiles d’Antibes will welcome the most beautiful Traditional Yachts of the world. For most of the participants, this prestigious parade represents the first “rendez-vous”of the Mediterranean Season.

Cannes Jumping International

From the 12th to the 14th June (Stade des Hespérides)

This International riding competition will feature the best riders of the world.

Thoroughbred Arab Horses Championship

From the 21st to the 22nd June (Stade Rondelli-Garavan) Menton

Each year the most prestigious thoroughbred Arab horses come from all over the world to participate in this Menton event…. All hoping to become Champion of the Mediterranean & Arab Countries.  Horses and riders will be judged by an international jury according to specific standards of breeding, style and performance.

Cro-Magnon Trial

Ultramarathon  an ultra long distance endurance event.

From the 21st to 22nd June (Limone-Cap dAil)

This is a long trial, 110km between Limone (Italy) and Cap d’Ail; an international sport event one of the most picturesque Ultra Trails in the world. Participants will arrive in Cap d’Ail Sunday morning 22nd June.

Ironman France Nice

Sunday 29th June (Departing from Promenade des Anglais) Nice 

The Nice Triathlon became an IRONMAN France event in 2005. Located in the heart of the mythical Côte d’Azur, athletes (2500 professional & amateur) come from all over the world every year to take on this remarkable race.  It has now become a major triathlon trial on the world calendar. Athletes will depart from the Promenade des Anglais for a long run on Nice historic waterfront, then a swim in the Mediterranean Sea and finally an endurance bike session through the alps.

FETES & FAIRS

Fête de la Saint Pierre

Sunday 29th June from 8pm (Quai Entreveaux Port of Nice)

Fête de la Saint Pierre is the great traditional festivity of the port!  Every year since the Middle Ages fishermen honoured their protector the saint patron “Saint-Pierre”.  There was stirring procession in the Old Town.

In the evening, there would be a gathering on the beach where a boat wasset on fire by one of the poorest fisherman of the co-operative (he was traditionally  given a brand new boat as a gift). A nice gesture of solidarity!

This traditional festivity continues to be celebrated annually.  It will take place on Sunday 29th from 8pm.

Here is the program:

8pm : mass at Notre Dame du Port Church

9pm : Fishermen religious procession from the church to the quai Entrecasteaux. Saint-Pierre statue will be taken on board the “Triton”, and enlighten traditional fisher boats “Pointus”will navigate in the port.

10pm : A fishing barque will be put on fire and local people will get together having drinks & chat all night long!

Fête de la Saint-Jean

Saturday 28th June (Church square) Saint-Paul de Vence

Originally Fête de la Saint-Jean was a spring festivity. People used to meet to celebrate the revival of nature by  lighting a grand brazier as a symbol of purification.   Now there are paper lanterns, local band music and Saint-Jean’s fire & traditional food specialities such as pan bagnat, socca, pissaladière etc… all served to the great delight of the public.

ART

Alexander Calder Exhibition

From 24th May to 7th September (Contemporary gallery -MAMAC) Nice

For the 50th anniversary of the Maeght Fondation, the Museum of modern & contemporary art of Nice is bringing into focus the friendly links that existed between the Maeght family and the American painter & sculptor Alexander Calder. This exhibition emphasises the importance of the monumental sculpture “Stabile Mobile”, that is exhibited permanently on the museum roof top. Around 50 works of art representative of the Artist’s life work will be shown  to the public.

Art Deco Mosaïcs Exhibition

till the 31st October (Atrium Lounge Splendid Hôtel & Spa 50 Bd Victor Hugo) Nice

A highly colourful collection of Art Deco Mosaics! Mosaics inspired by the Art Deco style of Isidore Odorico will be exhibited, along with photos of period mosaic ornamentations on buildings throughout the region.  There will be a documentary about mosaics in the 30s.

Nicolas de Staël Exhibition

Till 7th September (Picasso Museum) Antibes

For the centenary of Nicolas de Staël’s birth, Picasso Museum is offering visitors an exhibition dedicated to the “nude & look”in the artist’s work. Open from 10am to noon & from 2pm to 6pm, closed on Mondays.

“Bains, Bulles et Beauté”Exhibition

From the 8th June to the 30th September (Musée International de la Parfumerie) Grasse

‘Bath, Bubbles & Beauty’ An exhibition on the history of  grooming and bathing in the Occident from the 18th century until today. Opened from 10am to 7pm

SOMETHING DIFFERENT

Bionazur

From the 6th to the 8th June (Place Massena Promenade du Paillon) Nice

Three days to discover the art of living well, deliciously & organically.  In total, more than 100 exhibitors are coming from all over France and Italy to introduce you to their quality organic produce.  There will be many ‘bio approve’ products available that we don’t usually find in our local shops.

Sacha Sosno Exhibition

Till the 15th June (Espace Culturel) Mougins

The city of Mougins is paying tribute to the great French artiste Sacha Sosno who died last year. He was a prominent artist in this region and in the 1960s he founded  the modern art movement called “Ecole de Nice”. He   Sculpted the famous & unique architecture building “Square Head”in Nice which is the very first giant sculpture to have been transformed into a habitable building.

Many sculptures as well as lithographs will be exhibited in the Espace Culturel (opened from 10am to 12.30 & 2pm to 7pm), and there will be other significant sculptures on view in Mougins village.
